Story Behind the Art:

This rug was created in the Varanasi region of India. in the Bhadohi village. These rugs are made by Mahmood and his family. They are processed and hand-tufted in their home. and everyone in the family helps out. from his wife. Shakiba to the youngest daughter. Jamila. Hand-tufting is a rug-making process where weavers insert yarn into the backing with a hand-held tufting gun to push and pull the threads through a pre-woven and stenciled grid. Once the tufting is complete an additional backing is attached to protect the stitches. In a tufted rug. the tops of the loops are sheared for a softer. plusher pile.
